About

Elizabeth Evans LISW-CP, South Carolina License #8596
Certified Trauma Professional II
Certified First Responder Counselor

Thank you for visiting my website and learning about my methods of clinical social work practice. My background includes more than 20 years of experience with children and families. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care and behavior modification are my main modalities.

At an initial therapy visit I provide formal and informal assessments for mental health issues. I weigh the impact of the current environment with family input/history to determine presenting behaviors. I work step-by-step with children and families to make sure we are aligned as to the challenges or diagnoses. Areas outside my scope of clinical practice include; schizophrenia, eating disorders, substance dependence, and family law casework. I refer to specialists in the community in these instances.

What stimulates me about therapy? I am particularly interested in working with individuals that identify as Empaths. The roles of nutrition (brain/gut axis) and creativity intersecting with mental health are fascinating to me. A true privilege of working with young clients is watching them meaningfully learn how to use therapy as a tool throughout their lifespan.

Additionally, MUSC has been my employer and/or community partner since 2006. Through MUSC I work directly with First Responders in the Lowcountry, which has been a wonderful opportunity in addition to private practice.

Charleston has been my home since 2002. I grew up in a Navy family in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I am a believer in God. I am a wife and mother and have 3 dachshunds/“chiweenies”. My career has been a key component of my life‘s purpose.
